Codex Atlanticus, folio 984v

Threading and Tapping machine

On folio 984v of the Codex Atlanticus, Leonardo drew a system whereby a screw could be copied semi-automatically from a single model.

The operator had to place a blade alongside the screw being produced while the carriage was rising, imparting the desired rotation and speed of movement.
On the same folio he also draws a machine for threading nuts.
