Codex Ashburnham, folios C, D

Head of a dragon

The Ashburnham Codex contains a drawing of a sort of plucked-string musical instrument in the shape of a dragon's head. For the past two hundred years it has been identified, erroneously, as the drawing of Leonardo's famous lyre.

However, we have attempted its reconstruction, and we think it is a stage prop, rather than a real musical instrument.
It should be pointed out that this drawing may not have been made by Leonardo.
