Codex Atlanticus, folio 176r

Flying Machine CA176

The machine is named after folio 176r of the Codex Atlanticus.

The date of the folio is close to that of the Codex on Flight (1505), a more mature phase in which Leonardo abandoned the idea of a flapping flight for a more complex dynamic based on the study of the birds' wing motion and on a gliding flight sustained by the wind.
